Art and Social Engagement

Last week in my class, Art and Social Engagement in Detroit , we were required to feed our classmates in a way that encouraged social interaction, my friend, Andrea Del Rio and I decided on Sandwiches.

We made a letter shaped bun for all 26 of our class mates and sliced them top from bottom.

We saved the stumps for snacking but divided the tops between us and spread them with peanut butter or jelly.

We then placed all of the slathered tops condiment side down on a platter so as to hide the identities of the sandwiches, penut butter from jelly.

At the time of presentation each person received a single half, meant to find another person of the opposing condiment to make a sandwich.

Once conjoined, the sandwiches were sliced in half and shared.

The letters represented language and the art of discourse which emerges in social moments, especially when involving food
